7/8/13 – Almost Wild Goat Skewer

Successful day one. It would be a success if the only thing that went right was managing not to hit the juvenile mountain goat as I rounded a corner along the Clark Fork River. He jumped the guard rail (better him than me) and a quick look in the rear-view mirror revealed he was ok and even feeling spry enough to pose for other drivers’ pictures. Read more >

Use Your Head(set) and Avoid a Pain in the Neck

By: Julia Caro, Utility Billing Support Team Lead

Are you using a telephone headset on the job? Why and what kind?

Davin Blixt, Utility Billing Support Specialist, uses a cool over the ear wireless earpiece. With the number of calls he takes each day a regular telephone handset would definitely cause neck strain.

But beyond the mere ergonomics of it, there are many advantages headsets, for example, headsets allow Davin and other Utility Billing team members to immediately open up client files and computer tabs while on client calls.  Using a handheld phone while trying to do this would not only be difficult, but it would decrease efficiency, slow down the process, and decrease customer service.  Read more >

Essay: What Role Should Techology Play in Education?

What role should technology play in education?  That’s quite a big question for any one person to answer.  But if you are Jaclyn Rauthe of Flathead High School (Kalispell, MT), then you do so with ease.  Jaclyn’s essay on the topic won her the 2013 Black Mountain Software $500 Higher Education Scholarship.

After careful (blind) review of over 150 submittals, BMS chose Jaclyn’s essay as the winner of the scholarship, based on her answer to the question, “What role should technology play (if any) in the education of yourself, your siblings, or in the future, your own children?” We wanted to share her award-winning entry with you:

Throughout history, we have seen how education is affected by technology.

Black Mountain Software Awards Higher Education Scholarship

graduation caps

Black Mountain Software is pleased to announce that Jaclyn Rauthe of Flathead High School in Kalispell, Montana, has been selected as the 2013 winner of the company’s $500 higher education scholarship.

As the interest in the scholarship grew, it became evident we were asking too much of the already busy MASBO board members, so Black Mountain Software took over handling the entire process in-house.  Read more >
