Donna Hislop

Business & Human Resources Manager

In one minute, I can change my attitude and in that minute I can change my entire day.

The very act of believing creates strength of its own.

Location:

Polson, Montana

Biography:

One minute after meeting Donna, it becomes clear that she believes strongly in the power of positive thinking and a good attitude.  Her can-do attitude and positive outlook affect BMS staff every day as they go to her for help with employment-related questions (“Can you tell me again when my timecard is due?”), office management issues (“Do we have an extension cord around here somewhere?”), or accounts payable situations (“Can you pay this invoice today?”).  The stress of being the point person for an office’s operations would bring out the surly side of some people – but not Donna. She doesn’t treat us like children, but we know that her background as a teacher and Assistant Principal help her in dealing with all of us every day.

Small Town Story:

Donna grew up in a small town in eastern Montana. She has remained partial to small towns ever since. She loves the support system and sense of belonging, which she says is hard to describe. She provides a few examples that make it pretty clear, though: watching her community pull together once when many downtown businesses were lost to fires, the undying and enthusiastic support of the local school and its activities, and the resourceful creation of a community-owned business to enhance the lives of local citizens.

Community Service:

  • Polson Tennis Association: Founding member and volunteer fundraiser.  Also helped build, repair and resurface the six tennis court complex in Polson.
  • Polson High School Athletics: Assistant Coach for PHS tennis teams, and year-round volunteer and supporter for most other sports.  (Among her credentials: When she was teaching in tiny Dodson MT, Donna was the assistant girls basketball coach for the first team in the school’s history to make it to the state tournament!)

Education:

  • BS in Education (Business Education major with Physical Education minor), Eastern Montana College
