Journey of a BMS Summer Intern (Part II)

by: Abigail Luke, BMS Summer Intern

Week 9

Hello, again!

Here I am, still enjoying my summer internship at Black Mountain Software. At this point I have been able to work with a lot of the staff here and have become well-acquainted. I have also learned a lot and gained many new experiences.

These past weeks I have been working on development projects. These projects are ones that improve a specific function within the government accounting software. I have also been helping with reports, creating ones requested by customers to give them necessary information to help them make their job a little easier. There were times when I had no idea what to do or what was expected of me, but with many questions and plenty of support, it became a great learning experience! Currently, I am preparing myself to start answering phones with the Accounting Support team. This, I am very nervous about. However, Support Specialist Mindy has assured me that I can always ask more questions from team members and they will help me out.

With my busy schedule I haven’t been able to participate in many events with staff members outside of the office, but I see people here and there at my other job and around town. One event I am super excited for is the Dirty Dash in Missoula on Saturday, September 7 with some of the BMS staff. My sister participated in it last year. I think it will be fun, especially with our crew!  Another event Black Mountain Software is planning to participate in is the annual Rotary Youth Festival and Chili Cook-off at Polson’s Riverside Park on Saturday, August 24. I have participated in this event before at my previous job with Western States Insurance. It was a lot of fun, and I’m sure it will be just as much fun as part of the “Black Mountain Software Banditos” (we’re going with a Mexican outlaw theme, complete with chili verde).

The summer is almost over for me. I will be going back to school at the end of September. Randi Targerson, Director of Accounting Support, said if I have enough time and would like to, I could still come in and help later. If I can, I definitely will. Thank you everyone for your time, effort, and patience with me as I become familiar with the Black Mountain Software products.

Until next time!

Sincerely,

Abigail Luke
