Small Town Story: West Fargo, ND

Black Mountain Software is proud to have been working with the city of West Fargo since October of 2003, and we are all amazed that in the last fifteen years it has become one of the fastest growing and vibrant areas in all of North Dakota. While it’s easy to write off the state as nothing but icy winters, farmland, and the occasional woodchipper, West Fargo (and the greater Fargo-Moorehead metropolitan area for that matter) prove that North Dakota is not only a great place to visit, but also call home.

While just about every town has a historical district, West Fargo’s Bonanzaville hosts a pioneer village and Cass County Museum on twelve sprawling acres with dozens of historic buildings and thousands of artifacts that capture the spirit and charm of Red River Valley and Cass County at large. But Bonanzaville is more than just historical as it also incorporates Dawson Hall, where every year, performance arts collective Harwood Prairie Playhouse showcases the annual Farce in March play. So whether you are looking to explore the past or revel in the mirth of the present, West Fargo has you covered.

Perhaps one of the most notable features of West Fargo is the vast number and variety of parks situated within its borders—there’s something for everyone! Need some time to catch your breath while your kids burn off some energy on the jungle gym? The Wilds, River’s Bend, and Brooks Harbor are great options. Looking to get away from the squares and shred some rails or work on your kickflip? Rendezvous and North Elmwood skate parks are where you want to be. Or if fresh air, babbling brooks, and the serenity of natural scenic beauty are more your style, there is park in West Fargo waiting for you to schedule a barbecue or wedding reception.

West Fargo even caters to the extreme. If history bores you, comedy makes you frown, and outdoor recreation is just too darn suburban, then Skydive Fargo is just what the doctor ordered. Founded in 1967, Skydive Fargo is a non-profit organization comprised of expert adrenaline junkies dedicated to providing a safe but exhilarating experience for the stout of heart. They offer tandem jumps for beginners and training programs for those interested in carrying the daredevil torch into the future. Best part is, Flatland Brewery is only about seven miles south of the West Fargo Municipal Airport, so you can stop in for some liquid courage before your jump or celebrate your success afterward.

All in all, we are happy to have been affiliated with such an amazing town with so many awesome things to do. West Fargo, thanks for the last fifteen years, and here’s to fifteen more!

We would also like to send a special shout out to the West Fargo Police department for their excellent lip sync rendition of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.” Check out their video above and be sure to see how some of our other clients and various local entities have stepped up and taken the Lip Sync Challenge. Please feel free to share any Lip Sync Challenges done by our clients that we might have missed.
