James Johnson

Director of Engineering

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

– Calvin Coolidge

James is definitely not an Okie from Muskogee. More fittingly, he is a techy from Tulsa with more than 25 years of computer programming and technology systems experience. After graduating from Catoosa High School, James attended Oklahoma University and graduated from Tulsa Community College. Later, he counseled youth at the Tulsa Boys Home where he met his wife.

James started his computer tech career in programming and operations for Air-X-Changers in the Tulsa area. After a few years, he accepted a position at Compaq Computer Corporation in Houston, Texas. Hewlett-Packard later purchased Compaq, and James retired early from HP after a 20-year career.

During all this, the Johnson home might have been busier than all the business activity. You see, James and his wife have 10 beautiful children – it’s a really busy house. One day, his eldest son requested a trip to Glacier National Park for his 16th birthday. Having always wanted to live in the mountains, James was more than excited to explore “Big Sky” country with his son. Soon after their arrival, they both decided that Northwestern Montana was where the Johnson family ought to be. Once settled in the Kalispell area, James was a self-employed computer guru and was also able to spend a lot of terrific time with his family. He joined Black Mountain software in July 2015.

Small Town Story

It’s a common story of folks that visit Montana – they come for a spell and decide to stay. For years, James wanted to live in the mountains and benefit from the qualities that a small town community offers. “That dream became reality during our visit to Glacier – this is exactly where we want to be,” remembers James.
